Do I need an Internet connection?
Yes. The beauty of the software is that it’s web based and all you need is an Internet connection and a computer.
How fast does my Internet connection need to be?
Since easyrx is graphically intensive we recommend a download speed of 3-5 mbps.
Where does my script get saved and how can I access it?

What is the Rx canvas?
The Rx canvas is the designing area where all the magic happens! The Rx canvas represents the upper and lower arch and it is the area where the graphical representations of the parts are seen. Think of it as painting, and you can paint your appliance right on the Rx canvas.
How do I design an appliance?
Designing an appliance is as easy and moving your mouse. The program was designed to give the clinician the utmost ease and maneuverability of every part in the system. When you find your desired part in the parts library in the left pane, you have two options: you can drag the part to the desired tooth or arch, or you can just click on a part and the part shows up in a defaulted position. From that point you have the ability to move the part anywhere on the Rx canvas.
How to attach a note to a particular part, or a general note?
When designing a case you have the ability to write a note for a particular part concerning specific instructions or you may also write a general note pertaining to the whole case. Under the Rx canvas you will see your chosen part list and to the right you will see a button to click for “note”. In the notes tab under the chosen parts list a note box will appear and you can write a note for that part. Writing a general note is as simple as clicking on the notes tab and clicking “note” on the right side.
How do I assign a color for an appliance?
For any appliance that requires a color, it’s as easy as right clicking the color tab under the arch when it lights up. If there is an appliance that is on the arch that has the option for a color such as a removable retainer, a nance, or splint (just to name a few) the color tab will light up to indicate that color is available to choose. When you click the tab the color drawer will open and you can choose any of the available swatches. If you choose a color that has multiple colors, no problem. Pick the colors for the custom design and they will be shown in the color queue. For designs such as a tri-color, click and drag the colors in the order you would like to appear.
What is the blue dot for?
The blue dot is your gateway to having full control over the picked part. Think of the blue dot as a virtual handle for that part. When you click the blue dot you can click and drag it anywhere on the Rx canvas to different teeth it can apply to. When the blue dot is clicked and dragged to the opposing arch the part moves to that arch. You can also move the part by dragging the blue handle to the recycling bin on the bottom right part of the Rx canvas to delete the part.
What if there are multiple blue dots on an appliance or part?
If the part or appliance shows multiple dots, that gives you the ability to manipulate the size and coverage of that part. For example, when a labial bow is on the Rx canvas on the upper arch, two dots appear on each side on the labial omega loop. You can click and grab a blue handle on either side and move that part to cover any tooth desired just by moving the blue handles. This gives you the ability to make the 3-3 bow into a 4-4 bow, or a 3-4 bow. Now if you want to move that bow to the lower, just click on any blue dot on the bow and drag it over to the lower, you will then have the ability to adjust anyway you wish. This applies to every part that has a blue dot.
What is the red dot in the middle of the blue dot for?
If you notice a red dot within one of the blue dots, you are in luck! That red dot gives more options to the part you many be looking for. To open the box that gives you the options, activate the part by clicking on it when you hover over it (hint: when the part turns yellow, you know you are hovering over that part and you can click to select) then right click on the red dot and the options box opens. This allows you to choose a color for the retainer, or adjust the height of a bite plate, or ask to articulate for a posterior bite plate, or change the wire gauge for a bow, or pick a different type of RPE screw, type of spring wire, and many more options. Just look for the red dot in the middle of the blue one.
Can I make my own templates for easy designing?
One of the most powerful and time saving features of the easyrx system is the template manager, which is located as a tab on the top. There you can create predefined designs so that when you are on the designing page you can click the template tab below the Rx canvas, click your templates of choice, and it will appear above. For example, if you have a removable retainer for the maxillary, mandible, or both you use often, you can create and name those templates whatever you would like, and the system will detect whether its an upper, lower, or both and it will be saved as such. When you click on for example “upper and lower 6x6 soldered Hawley with Adams” (which you named) your designed templates will appear on the Rx canvas. If you need to add something or take away a part, just pick it from the parts library or delete the parts you don’t need. It’s that simple! You can also refer to the templates video in the Easyrx video learning center.
What if I put the wrong part onto the Rx canvas and need to delete it?
It’s easy to delete a part. Grab a blue handle related to that part and drag it into the recycling bin. You may also click on the part in the parts selection queue below the Rx canvas and click “delete’” next to the part.
What of I want to design a custom appliance that does not appear in the parts library?
There are a couple ways to attack this. Ideally you should create the script with easyrx and submit it with parts that are available and give detailed instructions. You can also submit a blank RX, print the script and hand draw the design as you would with a normal paper RX. When it hits the lab, we'll take it from there and you can check that case at anytime since its part of the system.
How can I move a part?
In the system parts are easy to select for editing or moving, or adding a note, or deleting a part. For any part to have functionality, it must be selected. There are a couple of ways to do this. One is to hover over the part. When you see the part light up yellow that is an indicator that you can select it by clicking your mouse. You can also find the part in the selected parts list below the Rx canvas and click edit next to the part. Once selected, the blue dots will appear for that part.
Why does the part turn yellow when I hover over it?
The system is indicating to the user that the part is being identified and once clicked it is now selected for editing or moving.
How do I make changes to a script after I have submitted it?
The system will not allow a user to make any modifications after it has been submitted. If there is a case you need to make changes to after submission, please call the lab at 800-837-1552 and we will more than happy to make those modifications for you. Tip: To help avoid this situation, you have the option to save the script and review at a later date.
How to search for a patient?
Searching for a patient is made very easy in the easyrx system. There are many ways to search. Lets start with the dashboard. A patients name can be entered in to the search box and will show all the matches. Since a birthday is an included entry, it narrows down your search for the patient you are looking for. Each patient has a unique ID that can be searched and the exact patient you are looking for can be found. There is also a search box under the “patient” tab at the top. Searches can be made in any search box but search results will only be those in that category. Since there are only 2 categories a script can be found (saved awaiting submission or submitted prescriptions) both places can be searched to find your case.
How do I create a new patient?
You will see that at the top of your screen are tabs, and one of those tabs is named patient. Click that tab and you will have the ability to search patients as well by clicking on the “create a new patient” button at the bottom of the screen. Once created, you will get a confirmation that the new patient created was successful.
How do I find an old patient to prescribe a new appliance?
Instead of making a new patient for every Rx, each patient has a unique account where you can see all prescribed appliance. Go to the “patient” tab; search for the patient by name, click view on the right hand column, and you will see a history of that patients past appliances. At the bottom of the screen you will see a“create prescription” button. Click that and you can create a new appliance for an existing patient.
Can I save a script now and send it later after approval from the doctor?
Yes, and that is an effective process of work flow. If the doctor deems a chair side employee to create the script, they can save the script and the doctor can pull it up for review before submitting it. We realized that doctors may not always design a script chair side and this is an easy way to streamline that process.
How do I create a Digital Study Model prescription?
Click the study model tab under the canvas within the prescription workspace, and you will see the available options for digital study models. You can also add an analysis of the case for additional fee. Please include a bite registration along with what class and division of the occlusion.
What is Clearlign and how do I use it?
Clearlign is the aligner system that ODL uses to straighten teeth with invisible retainers. It is very similar to invisalign except without the high cost of treatment. You pay for only what teeth are aligned. And using the easyrx system for Clearlign is so simple. Click the Clearlign tab underneath the Rx canvas, click which system to use, how many aligners (or let our experienced technicians choose), and click the teeth on the crosshatch you want to align. Click “submit” and you are all set.
Can I have multiple offices?
Yes! In fact this system will make tracking cases for satellite offices so much easier. When you are registering your account with ODL be sure to let us know how many offices and their locations and we will incorporate that into your account, so when assigning your case to an office location, you will have easy access to your specified offices.
Can one account accommodate multiple doctors in the system?
Yes and no, the software was designed to fit every practice and sometimes there are situations where this can impede on identifying where a case is going or who its going to. So we have set the doctor profile to accommodate one doctor but can have as many offices and locations you would like. On the checkout page the primary doctors name will be there and there will also be a field just below where you can type the name of whom you want the case to go to, such as another doctor in the practice. That simplifies the process and keeps cases organized since there might be situations where you may want the case to go to a practice manager or another employee for appliance review before the doctor see’s it. This way allows you to do that.
What is the best way to logistically use this software in the clinic?
We are aware that every practice manages their workflow and organization of prescriptions differently. The system was designed to adapt to your workflow making it easy to navigate through easyrx. This gives you options and allows any employee the ability to learn and use the system.
Can I work from home?
Yes, as long as you have a high-speed Internet connection you can work from anywhere. Feeling like a coffee, bring your laptop or netbook to a Starbucks or Panera Bread and as long as you can access Wi-Fi you can have full access to the software.
